SYDNEY SHAPE NOTE SINGERS SUNDAY 8th June

Where Bluegrass Harmony began!

All welcome A NEW VENUE with wonderful acoustics. The group is all about singing for the joy of singing. A unique form which is based on the 1600-1700 West Country English ( and Scots Irish) folk song tunes that were nurtured and preserved as a living tradition in the South Eastern States of the US.  Shape Note refers to a unique system of standard modern notation, but uses uniques note heads to covey the pitch of each note using the old English four note solfa system ( Fa-Sol-La-Fa Sol-La -Mi-Fa.  No "choir" type voice required. Males and females can sing whereever they want- just an octave up or down. Uses natural pitches of the human voice and the key of the tune is determined by the mix of voices present.  Sacred Harp singing groups sing for the sheer joy it is not done with an aim to performing.

Coordinator Eimear Cradock saya " We are an open group who pride ourselves on creating an atmosphere that is inclusive and participatory. You require no musical or singing experience to join just the desire to sing. "

meeting times are the second sunday of every month, at Dickson Street Space, Dickson Street, off King Street, Newtown, - Normally 3-6pm.

We welcome everybody of all ages, ability levels, political and religious backgrounds..our common ground is that we sing together. For more information on sacred harp visit http://fasola.org/ .
